So, recently I've been asked, by people that actually realize that I'm still alive, what's going on in my life. This made me realize that I've also not posted on here in a while, so..... two birds with one stone.
Lately I've been giving impromptu speeches. What is an impromptu speech you say, having 10 minutes the day before to design a presentation about the IBM project that I'm working on for miscellaneous groups. Those groups just so happened to be the bosses of my client and potential investors for the school that I'm attending (I'm actually sitting in a class writing this). So these past two weeks have been entertaining.
Last week, Thursday, was the when we, my project team, had a presentation sprung on us for our boss's bosses. Surprisingly enough the presentation went extremely well. The teachers their loved the progress of our project, our boss's bosses loved the progress of the project, they even are planning on flying us out to Austin, Texas to deploy the project at the end of the quarter. So, all-in-all, it was a rather nice presentation, nothing but praises from everyone involved in setting up the presentation.
Now, jump ahead to yesterday. A teacher, one that oversees the division of our projects called Enterprise Projects, came into our project's room and asked us about a presentation. Everyone on my team looked at each other like, "yeah, we did the presentation last week and YOU, the teacher, were in the room." Noticing the look on our faces, he decided to explain what he was talking about. Apparently because of the good job that we did last week on our presentation, when he was asked by the president of our school to find a group to present for some prospective investors the team he decided to do it was my project team. So this is impromptu speech #2. We have no clue as to WHO the investors are, but we were given the facts that they are not technical people, so that makes it a little easier. This presentation doesn't take place until 12(noon) today, so I'll inevitably post again to update the status.
The college that I attend, Neumont University, holds coding contests every quarter. The contests involve a 3 hour sitting in which students work on multiple programming problems collected from various resources, online websites, other college and high school competitions, or some even made up from teachers. The contests are not only a test of our programmatical abilities, but our mathematical and logical as well. One of the major problems with this activity is the lack of student involvement. There's no real incentive for the students to participate in the contest short of bragging rights. I've found the solution. If Neumont were to make the coding contests more like THIS video there'd be no problem with student involvement.
